A burning commitment to climate, green growth, circular economy and collaboration.

That was the starting point for Lennert Hug, founder of reMadrass. When he understood the extent of discarded mattresses; 750,000 annually in Norway, and over 3 million in the Nordic region - Lennert decided to take action.

The burning mattresses left a lasting impression. Each mattress weighs an average of 21 kg, resulting in emissions of 75 kg of CO2. Across the Nordics, that adds up to over 50,000 tonnes of waste and nearly 250,000 tonnes of CO2 released into the atmosphere!

This became the seed of an exciting new project — the cleaning and recycling of mattresses, which would soon take the name reMadrass.

It was time for action. Enough talk — the mattresses needed to be saved, given a new life. After two years of gathering data on mattresses, on the benefits of reuse and recycling, on opportunities and challenges, ReMadrass AS was formally founded on 15 January 2024.

ReMadrass is an innovative company built on circular collaboration between mattress manufacturers, furniture retailers, waste management stations, municipalities, and policymakers.

A win-win for everyone.

Our partners include HRA (Hadeland and Ringerike Avfallsselskap AS), Innovation Norway, Handelens Miljøfond, Scandic Hotels, Oslo Municipality Waste Services, and IKEA.
